Dear Government.

You are fucking ridiculous.

As an under 25, I am not entitled to Working Tax Credits. If I take this apprenticeship, and assuming you count that as being ok to receive other benefits, I will have an average income of £195 a week. £780 a month.

Once I hit 25, I get an extra £88.34 per week. This takes me up to £238 a week or there abouts. That's £952 a month.

That a difference of £172 a month just because I turn 25.

I know that I'm grateful the provision for these benefits exists. We're damn lucky in this country. But still. Just because I'm under 25 it should not mean that I'm not allowed this benefit, despite the fact that I'd be (and have been in the past) working full fucking time. This really gets my goat. Life would've been a hell of a lot easier if we'd got that little extra last year while I was working.

It's wonderful, isn't it? Apparently bills are magically lower and you don't need to pay rent if you're under 25...

I know right.

The scary thing is, since the benefits aren't taxable and I don't the the money from the apprenticeship is either, that once I'm over 25 and on it I'll actually be earning more than I was at Marjon a month.
